As one of the oldest towns in the Cape Province, Franshhoek literally means ‘French Corner’ in Afrikaans, and with its rich Huguenot heritage, this name is perfectly apt. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket office in the village centre, and cost R220 for adults or R90 for kids between 3 and 17 years of age (toddlers travel free). There are 6 hop-on hop-off lines to choose from, each with different wine estates and activities on offer. Wine tastings at each estate cost between R20 and R50. Some highlights to enjoy on the tram route include the following:
- Tours depart from the Franschhoek Wine Tram ticket office, which is located in the Franschhoek Village centre.
- The Orange Line departs on the tram-bus first, stopping at Noble Hill, Babylonstoren, Backsberg, Glen Carlou, Solms Delta, Vrede en Lust, Plaisir De Merle and Allee Bleue.
- The Purple Line departs on the tram first, stopping at Vrede en Lust, Plaisir De Merle, Allee Bleue, Noble Hill, Babylonstoren, Backsberg, Glen Carlou and Solms-Delta.
- The Blue Line departs on the tram-bus first, stopping at Mont Rochelle, Le Lude, La Bri, La Bourgogne, Holden Manz, La Couronne, Rickety Bridge and Grande Provence.
- The Green Line departs on the tram first, stopping at Rickety Bridge, Grande Provence, Mont Rochelle, Le Lude, La Bri, La Bourgogne, Holden Manz and La Couronne.
- The Red Line departs on the tram-bus first, stopping at Maison, Eikehof, Leopard’s Leap, Chamonix, Dieu Donne, Franschhoek Cellar, Rickety Bridge and Grande Provence.
- The Yellow Line departs on the tram first, stopping at Rickety Bridge, Grande Provence, Maison, Eikehof, Leopard’s Leap, Chamonix, Dieu Donne and Franschhoek Cellar.
- Activities on all routes include wine tasting, cellar tours, lunch, strolls through the vineyards, scenery, cheese tasting, kid’s activities, photographic opportunities and more.
